Jarrod Bowen thinks West Ham have made a ‘big statement’ in the January transfer window

Jarrod Bowen is in fine spirits right now, it seems, in spite of West Ham United’s grim current situation.

Bowen has actually been nowhere near his best this season, but he is still more than capable of dragging West Ham out of the relegation zone.

The 29-year-old has a huge weight on his shoulders right now.

He is the club captain and needs to lead by example.

Bowen has pleaded with the West Ham fans to stick by the team, as he and his teammates try to turn things around on the pitch.

And if they play like they did against Tottenham on Saturday, they will have full and unwavering support from the Hammers faithful.

Jarrod Bowen says West Ham have made a big January window statement

If the Hammers can find a way to record a couple more wins in a row now, the feel-good factor could return very quickly to the London Stadium.

The club have already made some big moves in the January transfer window.

And while more new signings are needed, the board have at least acted early on in the month to provide Nuno Espirito Santo with more firepower.

Bowen spoke to the club’s official website and shared his delight that the Hammers have already made a big January transfer window statement.

“They’ve settled in really well,” Bowen said about Taty and Pablo.

“I know how difficult it is to come in in January. I joined in January [2020] halfway into a season and I think we were 17th in the league when I arrived, so obviously to come into the situation that they’re coming into is difficult.

“But they’ve settled really well. Taty got his goal against QPR [in the FA Cup] the other day, so for him to get his first goal for the Club is really big for him.

“Pablo as well, he’s come in and, again, he’s looked really good in training. He’s had his moments on the pitch as well and he’s done well as well.

“Two strikers in January is a big statement from the Club.”

Have West Ham really made a big statement?

Despite the fact that Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe could well come good for the Hammers, neither of them are proven in the Premier League.

Playing Devil’s Advocate here, would West Ham be better off keeping Callum Wilson and starting him regularly?

Wilson knows where the back of the net is, as he proved against Tottenham on Saturday.

Meanwhile, nobody actually knows whether Taty or Pablo will actually be good enough to make the impact that the Hammers require right now.

Signing two strikers in the January window may well be a big statement on paper from West Ham.

However, it remains to be seen whether that is the reality of the situation. It could be argued that a ‘big statement’ would have been West Ham going out and signing a proven Premier League striker.

There is a long way to go in the Premier League this season.

If the Hammers are to avoid relegation, though, they will need the two South American strikers to start scoring goals consistently.
