Kris Boyd makes Rangers transfer claim as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers splash out to fix 'big mistakes'

Rangers have until the end of the January transfer window to bring in some more new faces

Rangers turned to Danny Rohl as their head coach earlier this season.

Prior to his move to Ibrox, he caught the eye down in England at Sheffield Wednesday before his exit from Hillsborough last summer. He was picked as the Gers’ replacement for Russell Martin and has since made a positive impression.

His side beat Annan Athletic 5-0 in the Scottish Cup last time out. Bojan Miovski managed to score a hat-trick against the Scottish League Two side. Kieran Dowell and Thelo Aasgaard also got on the scoresheet.

Rangers transfer claim dropped by Kris Boyd

Kris Boyd believes Rangers haven’t finished in the transfer window just yet, and backs chairman Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises to support Rohl further. They have until the deadline on Monday 2nd February to bring in some more new faces. The Gers have delved into the market recently to snap up the likes of Andreas Skov Olsen, Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens.

He has delivered his verdict, as per his Scottish Sun column: "Let's be clear, there is every chance the club who has the best transfer window will be top of the league in May. Credit to Ibrox chairman Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises for giving Rangers the best possible opportunity of doing just that. The American owners made big mistakes in the summer, with the appointment of Russell Martin and a poor window.”

He added: “What Rohl needs now is extra quality and an X-factor at the top end of the transfer window market and he's getting it. He revealed he told Cavenagh that Rangers had to be brave in the January window. Well, the Ibrox chairman has already sanctioned £7.5million to be spent on Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens.

“But Andreas Skov Olsen's arrival from Wolfsburg on an initial loan is the big statement of intent from the Ibrox outfit. Still only 26 and capped 40 times by Denmark, the winger can give Gers a vital spark. And you know what, I get the sense that Cavenagh isn't quite finished with things yet.

“Rangers will ship out a few fringe players between now and February 2 but there could still be some arrivals. Cavenagh has his eyes on the Premiership title and the potential for direct entry to the Champions League, given Rangers' coefficient. When he promised to 'fix' things, he clearly meant it and don't be surprised if more top signings arrive."

What now for Rangers as they hunt down Hearts?

Rangers are back in league action next Sunday against Dundee after their Europa League clash against Ludogorets as they aim to keep their momentum going. They are six points behind Hearts at the summit. The Gers are level on points with rivals Celtic in 2nd but are behind the Hoops on goal difference at this stage.

It will be interesting to see how new boy Olsen adapts to life in Scotland. He will give Rohl more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. The winger, who is from Denmark, has made 40 caps for his country to date.

Olsen, 26, started his career at FC Nordsjælland and broke into their first-team as a youngster. He then embarked on spells at Bologna and Club Brugge in Italy and Belgium respectively. Wolfsburg then came calling in January last year and he has since made 24 appearances in Germany, finding the net on three occasions.
