Danny Rohl is finally set to make his first signing as Rangers manager.
Rangers have been forecasted a busy January transfer window, with Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises ready to back Rohl in the market.
Despite the need for new faces at Ibrox, Rangers have still been finding form in the Premiership, with the Gers beating Aberdeen 2-0 on Tuesday night to extend their winning run to four league games, and place them just three points behind leaders Hearts.
After the reverse fixture against Jimmy Thelin’s side is played out at Pittodrie this Sunday, Rohl’s side will enjoy a two-week break from league action, with Scottish Cup and Europa League matters to attend to, providing a nice window of transfer opportunity to bed in any new recruits.
Rangers get Tuur Rommens transfer breakthrough
Scottish Sun journalist David Friel guaranteed Rangers would sign a left-back, and now they appear to have got their man.
That’s because a report from the Daily Record on Thursday has suggested that Rangers have had a £3.5million bid accepted for Westerlo full-back Tuur Rommens.
It’s stated that the 22-year-old Belgian defender is already on his way to Glasgow to complete the deal, which will come as a great relief for Rohl and indeed Rangers’ technical director Dan Purdy, who are both said to have identified Rommens as the player they wanted to be their long-term answer at left-back.
The deal is said to have moved quickly for Rommens after Rangers were knocked back after making an approach for AEK Athens’ James Penrice, with the Westerlo man now ready to sign on the dotted line once he completes his medical.
The Belgian side were reluctant to sell, but it seems Purdy’s – and indeed Rangers’ – persistence has paid off early in the window.
Why Rommens transfer is massive for Rangers
With just 19-year-old Brentford loanee Jayden Meghoma as the only natural left-back in the team, beefing up that position has evidently been transfer priority number one for Rangers this month.
In Rommens, they are signing a Belgium youth international who has already racked up over 80 senior appearances in his career, with 79 of those coming for Westerlo and another couple with Genk – the club he began his career with.
So far in 2025-26, Rommens has registered a 35.5 per cent successful cross rate, which ranks him in the top 6.2 percentile of left-backs in the Belgian Pro League
Meanwhile, he’s also created 20 chances, performed 20 successful dribbles at an overall success rate of 76.9 per cent, took 33 touches in the opposition box in just 15 league appearances, but whilst posting some superb offensive numbers, he’s excelling in the defensive side of the game too.
In fact, no left-back in Belgium’s top division has won more duels than Rommens has this season (103), and he’s won the most aerial duels too (38), so it’s clear that he’s going to be a force for Rangers at both ends of the pitch.
